Paintball markers can run on three types of air: nitrogen, compressed air or CO2.
This
is a composite tank. It is used to hold nitrogen or compressed air.
The sizes and psi capacity levels on the bottles vary. The advantages
of nitrogen and compressed air over CO2
are they can fire of more shots per tank and the air flows and shoots better
than CO2. The price range
on one of these tanks starts around $250, so they are pretty expensive.
An aluminum alternative to the composite
tank is now being offered at a much lower price of under $100. They
are just coming out so I don't have any more details, nor can I compare
them to composite tanks.
These
two tanks are CO2 tanks.
The smaller one is a 12 gram CO2
used for pistols and cost about a dollar each. The larger tank is
a 20 ounce tank. It is used for the majority of mid to low range
guns and costs from $25-$40 depending on the size. The advantage
of a CO2 tank is it's cheaper
than a composite tank and CO2
is cheaper and more available than nitrogen or compressed gas. However
after you fill a CO2
tank the
tanks freezes and has to warm up in order for the gun to shoot accurately.
The liquid part of the CO2 can
also flow in the gun and cause problems like balls breaking and inaccuracy.
