A mask is probably the most important
piece of equipment when playing paintball. It protects the eyes mainly
from balls traveling up to 310 feet per second. Most masks cover
the entire face and ears, but some people choose only to wear the eye protection
part. The material choice for the mask is pretty important too.
Some masks (not including the lens) are rubber and plastic while others
are foam. I recommend a plastic and rubber mask because it protects
your face better than foam. Foam on the other hand can be more comfortable,
but the balls can hit a vent and break and bruise and/or the skin on your
face (this has happened to me before.) Some masks have thermal lenses
that help reduce fog. When you start breathing really hard with a
regular lens it is possible that the lens will fog up, but thermal lenses
help reduce the fog.
