St. John's University is a non-profit corporation dedicated to offering the
highest standards of education for affordable tuition through the convenience of
home-study. Students are encouraged to take full responsibility for seeking
their own truth and applying it the best they can in their daily lives. St.
John's University is incorporated in the states of Missouri and Louisiana under
the full name of St. John's University of Practical Theology.
St. John's University was located in St. John's, Missouri and was named for
the town in which it was located. Prior to being located in Missouri, the
University was located in Nebraska and was named Eastern Nebraska Christian
College. St. John's University fulfilled all educational requirements of the
Nebraska and Missouri Boards of Education and since 1981, St. John's University
has fulfilled all educational requirements of the Louisiana Board of Education
and the Louisiana Board of Regents.
Education is a life long process. Enhancing one's past learning is an
enlivening and invigorating experience. Additional education and training have
become an on-going component of adult life. Often adults are highly motivated
to advance their career or life goals. Goal setting is a continual process
throughout life. Various professions such as nursing, law enforcement,
corrections, and substance abuse counseling do not allow much time for attending
campus programs. External degree programs are often the only way these busy
professionals can continue their education and advance in their profession. Home
makers with families also greatly benefit from the many advantages of home
study.
St. John's University welcomes all individuals who desire to further their
education through home- study and complete their degree programs with the
maximum of freedom to select courses with flexible tuition plans. St. John's
University strives to create and nurture optimal conditions and opportunities
for educational excellence. Earned credits and degrees from St. John's
University are transferable to other educational institutions; graduates enjoy
excellent career opportunities. St. John's University seeks to serve the
student, as well as the community, with a deep commitment to the entire person's
well being as well as academic excellence.
St. John's University offers innovative curriculum that broadens and deepens
many areas of knowledge. Many new courses and additional faculty are added
with each catalog printing.
Legitimate education through correspondence began in the United States
in 1728. By 1883, home- study programs gained formal recognition in the state of
New York. Today every major university in the United States offers curriculum by
correspondence. Educational needs are changing as busy, highly productive
individuals select educational programs that suit their needs as well as their
time and budget.
There are over 8 million individuals actively pursuing their education
through home-study programs each year. According to the National Home Study
Council, over 100 million Americans since 1900 have taken advantage of the
opportunity to study by mail. This includes distinguished Americans such as
Walter P. Chrysler, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Walter Cronkite, Barry Goldwater,
Charles Schultz, creator of the Peanuts comic strip, and many others.
Research reveals that home-study graduates compare very favorably in
knowledge, skill, and self- directed motivation to their campus counterparts.
For this reason, many businesses and industries have chosen home-study programs
to train employees. Today almost half of the "Fortune 500"
corporations employ home- study courses to train their employees. Many
corporations fully reimburse their employees who are enrolled at St. John's
University.
St. John's University fulfills all requirements of the Louisiana
Department of Education as well as the Louisiana Board of Regents. St. John's
University has been an accredited University since 1969.

Theological accrediting is appropriate as St. John's University is the
educational facility for The Congregational Church of Practical Theology, an
inter-faith, nondenomin- ational church.
Theological accreditation is an appropriate category of accreditation
which also protects separation of church and state, as guaranteed by the United
States Constitution.
Regional accreditation is appropriate for colleges and universities which
offer campus facilities.
Over 90% of all individuals seeking admissions to St. John's University have
attended campus programs prior to selecting St. John's University. The many
benefits of continuing their education by correspondence enable them to study at
their own pace on a one on one basis with an Instructor within the security of
their own home or office at affordable tuition.
The University teaching staff are listed at the back of the catalog. St.
John's University's faculty are deeply dedicated to the concept of
nontraditional education offered through external studies. All faculty, except
Hypnotherapy Internship Supervisors, donate their services to students assigned
to them in order to guarantee that any student who sincerely wishes to pursue
their education can afford to do so.
Most of St. John's University's faculty are full time professors at other
campus universities or are employed in a full time position. Some Instructors
have continued to serve students attending St. John's University since it was
incorporated in 1969.
St. John's University reserves the right to change, at any time without
notice, tuition rates, graduation fees, other administrative fees, as well as
regulations and guide lines if the need for such changes is determined by the
Board of Directors or Executive Administrative Committee.
Changes in regulations and guidelines effect prospective as well as
currently enrolled students. St. John's University also reserves the right to
withdraw courses, reassign instructors, and change student fees, including
tuition, at any time without notice. Changes in future tuition fees would not
effect actively enrolled students. When inactive students reactivate their
status, tuition will be adjusted to current rates. Any other changes to update
a student's file will also be completed when the student receives an active
student status.
The Alumni Association of St. John's University was founded in June,
1971. Graduates are strongly encouraged to join the Alumni Association. The
Alumni Association sponsors special events, such as the Alumni banquet,
reception and dinner during commencement weekends. Membership also enables
graduates to remain actively involved in St. John's University's continued
growth and success. An annual Alumni Directory is published which includes all
graduates since the first graduating class of 1972.
St. John's University is grateful that the Alumni have done so much to
help St. John's University throughout the years. The Alumni have been
responsible for much of the continuous growth and expansion of the university.
Alumni have also contributed donations, office supplies and equipment. Some
Alumni have included St. John's University in their living trusts and wills.
Others have already donated land, office equipment, furniture, and numerous
other gifts.
Each semester many new courses are added and a few courses are changed or
dropped. Textbooks may also be changed or only be available in a new edition.
Students who order a book just prior to starting that course or students who
complete courses in a timely fashion should be able to complete their program
easily and in a smooth fashion. If considerable time passes since receiving a
catalog or starting a course students may find that their course has been
dropped or their instructor has changed.
Prices on textbooks are also continuously changing due to fluctuation of
publisher's prices. Textbooks are occasionally changed when a different text
becomes available or the current book is out of print. St. John's University
reserves the right to change book prices for the above reasons.
The American Counselors Society and the National Society of Clinical
Hypnotherapists were founded in 1969. Professional training and continuing
education remain the predominant feature of both societies.
There are many personal and professional benefits to society membership.
Prospective students, currently enrolled students and St. John's University
Alumni are eligible to apply for membership. Students earning Hypnotherapy
Certification will receive a complimentary student membership when they begin
Certification level 1.
