About The Program

The Clinical Hypnotherapy Certification Program can grant 38 semester hours of accredited college credit toward a Bachelor, Master or Doctoral Degree. Each of the 11 courses grants 3 semester hours of college credit. The Mentor Program or Internship can grant 5 semester hours of credit. Additional advanced seminars in Clinical Hypnotherapy are also available. Students in a Bachelor or Ph.D. Degree can blend together curriculum from a variety of departments, such as: Psychology, Pastoral Counseling, Health Care Arts, Natural Healing Arts and Sciences, Substance Abuse, Parapsychology, Pastoral Counseling, Social Services, Religion, Metaphysics, and other areas.

St. John's University has offered accredited degrees- Bachelor, Master and Doctor of Philosophy Degrees since 1969 in 18 departments, including Clinical Hypnotherapy. St. John's University's Certification and Degree program has been recognized and awarded the prestigious Sealah Award in education by the International Hypnosis Hall of Fame.

A Certified Hypnotist uses basic fundamentals in areas of habit control such as smoking, overweight, nail biting, etc. and simple areas of self-improvement, such as increased self confidence, sales performance, etc. Certification is granted to individuals who complete courses 1 - 4 of St. John's University's Certification Program. This grants Certification as a Certified Hypnotist.

Level II Certification: A Certified Hypnotherapist has received training in areas such as hypno-anaesthesiology for pain, psychosomatic illness, emotional problems, sexual dysfunctions, hypnotherapy with children and adolescents, age and past life regression, neurolinguistic programming and others. Certification is granted to individuals who complete courses 5 - 11 of St. John's University's Certification Program. This grants Certification as a Certified Hypnotherapist.

Level III Certification: A Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist is a designation reflecting the successful completion of the Clinical Practicum. A Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist has completed courses 1 - 11 of St. John's University's Certification Program and successfully completed the Mentor or Internship Program. This clinical experience consists of completing 50 individual audio recorded Hypnotherapy sessions, including the clinical interview and post-talk, and completing a clinical report for each session. This individualized instruction is provided by St. John's University Internship Faculty. This grants Certification as a Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist.

hypnosis really is and what it is not. You will learn the key to successful hypnosis with the highly effective Winkler Method. What are the real and imagined dangers of hypnosis? You will effectively learn how to therapeutically work with different levels of the Inner Mind. You will have a comprehensive understanding of the role suggestion plays in hypnosis and the unique dynamics of the client-therapist relationship. You will learn proper induction and awakening techniques that will prepare you to effectively guide others into and out of an effective altered state of awareness for self-healing. You will learn the most common mistakes made by hypnotists and how to avoid these mistakes. You will learn the artistry of client-centered Ericksonian hypnosis and the fundamentals of neurolinguistic programming and much more. This course will prepare you for more advance training.

Course 2:You will learn the finer points to hypnotic suggestion and how to prepare the client for a successful session. You will learn a variety of techniques that will work with any client. You will be able to identify and understand the more subtle techniques in your training materials. You will learn about truisms, hypnotic binds, double binds, and the importance of indirect releasing techniques for permanent client success. This course provides many case studies of the Winkler Method of effective hypnotherapy. You will learn more advance neurolinguistic techniques used within the hypnotic trance to add to effective self-healing.

Course 3:You will learn how to successfully assist clients to be released from the smoking habit and over weight, two of the most frequent uses of Hypnotherapy. Additional interview skills are covered. Smoking and weight are complicated issues that need to be thoroughly understood. Following the Winkler Method that you will learn in this seminar, 90 - 95% of your clients can be nonsmokers after their first session. You will learn how to identify emotional and physical suggestibility and learn about your own suggestibility. Course materials will include Dr. Winkler's Volume I of the Hypnotic Inductions and Prescriptions Handbook.

Course 4:You will learn advanced techniques of self-healing through indirect regression within the appropriate levels of mind that are involved with resolving a particular problem. You will learn more about confusion techniques and how to work with the resistant client. You will learn how to communicate with the inner mind using the ideo-motor response or finger response. You will learn many other indirect means of guiding the client in resolving problems. You will learn how to guide a client into hypnosis by phone or letter. You will learn about how to successfully begin and complete your Supervised Internship Program. Upon completion of course 4, Certification students are eligible to take the Level I Certification exam.

Course 6:You will benefit from a comprehensive understanding of the relationship between sexual dysfunctions and many other problems such as migraine headaches, neck and back pain, PMS, depression, insomnia, paranoia, dizziness, chain smoking, over-weight, frigidity, impotency, etc. You will learn effective techniques to successfully assist clients to be released from sexual dysfunctions. You will understand how to also successfully use Hypnotherapy techniques with victims of rape and incest. You will learn how to identify false memories and guide the client to healing such memories. This is a very helpful seminar to help you be more comprehensive in your therapeutic services.

Course 7:This course will properly prepare you to hypnotize babies, infants, toddler, pre-school, school-age and adolescent children. These techniques are totally different than those you have learned to use with adults. Some of the most common problems you will be able to help children successfully overcome are asthma, bedwetting, learning problems, hyperactivity, general anxiety, nightmares, allergies, fears, nail biting, etc. You will be able to empower children to fulfill more of their potential. Advanced Certification is available in Pediatric Hypnotherapy.

Course 8:You will learn advanced techniques of therapeutic psychology that will enable you to successfully work with many different kinds of emotional problems. You will understand the neurotic and psychotic personality and how to help clients resolve many kinds of emotional problems. You will learn about how to use night dreams and hypnotic dreams for problem resolution. You will understand the concept of transference and how to actually use transference therapeutically. You will review therapeutic applications of prolonged hypnosis, symptom removal and hypnoanalysis. You will learn about associational ties, balance of opposites and compounding suggestions. Valuable client cases are discussed that will deepen your understanding of mental illness and effective means of self-healing.

Course 9:You will learn how to successfully work with psychosomatic illnesses by understanding the natural healing laws of mind and the common causes of illness. This course will prepare you for direct regression techniques in Course 10. You will learn how to use creative visualization deep within the mind for self-healing.

You will learn the relationship between the mind and the brain and the mental causes of physical ill health. Many unusual case studies reveal how simple the self-healing process really can be with proper hypnotic techniques.

Course 10:You will understand the inner mind's ability to recall and retrieve information from this and past lives and how to therapeutically use this information to resolve current problems. You will learn effective age regression techniques as well as past-life regression techniques. You will learn the dangers of regression and how to successfully avoid them. You will also learn the most common mistakes most hypnotists make when doing regression therapy. Understanding revivification will unable you to be more effective in regression work. Many client cases from over 10,000 regressions will give you tremendous insight and understanding of the Inner Mind's ability to use proper regression techniques for successful self-healing.

Course 11:You will learn many practical tips on how to begin and maintain a successful Hypnotherapy practice or center.
