No Fear!

Have you seen the stickers that say "No FEAR" How can anyone have "No Fear? What is it that you fear the most? There are many possible answers: death, cancer, job loss, a job interview, violence, going to a new school, etc. Maybe you can think of others.

I want to suggest to you that "NO FEAR" is possible. Look at the following words of David from Psalm 46 and 47.

" God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will NOT FEAR, though the earth give way and the mountain fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging. There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy place where the Most High dwells. God is within her, she will not fall; he lifts his voice, the earth melts. The Lord Almighty is with us: the God of Jacob is our fortress…Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth. The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. Clap your hands, all you nations; shout to God with cries of joy. How awesome is the Lord Most High, the great King over all the earth!… God reigns over the nations; God is seated on his holy throne. The nobles of the nations assemble as the people of God of Abraham, for the kings of the earth belong to God; he is exalted."

There are two reasons that we can have "NO FEAR". The first is that God is in charge. David used words and phrases like "Almighty", "Awesome", "Seated on His holly throne" and "Greatly exalted". Our awesome, almighty God is seated on His holy throne and is greatly exalted. God is in charge!. The presence of God can drive fear from us. Therefore, since God is in charge and is with us, we can have "NO FEAR".

The problem comes when we don't focus on God. When we focus on our problems…they get really big…they even become monsters that haunt us. That is why David quotes God, "Be still, and know that I am God."

We at Westchurch, are striving to know God. We need to focus and know him better! We invite you to come and grow in a relationship with God with us! Yes, it is possible that we can say together, "NO FEAR!"
